How to Get the Most out of TailWind for Pinterest – My 30 day look ahead Tailwind Pinning Strategy

Are you a paid Tailwind Pinterest user? Do you from time to time get the ‘Your Tailwind Queue is Empty’ message that signifies you are not taking full advantage of the most beneficial feature of Tailwind, which is to populate Pins to your various boards on a daily basis? Well if that’s you I have a solution for you and it’s my 30-day look ahead Tailwind Pinning Strategy.

First for those who may be on a trial plan or clicked the link out of curiosity and may not know what Tailwind is; it’s an automated Virtual Assistant for use with Pinterest and Instagram that manages scheduling of Pinterest or Instagram Pins thru self-selected and/or optimized scheduling of those Pins at times that are most likely to attract the attention of Pinterest users and browsers.

One of the key components that drives your metrics on Pinterest is your level of engagement. Pinning content daily plays a role in engagement. But if you’re like me you want to pin quality content, yours or others Pins that convey useful and hopefully effective tips, tools, and information to those who follow you or view your boards and content.

And that’s where Tailwind comes into play. One of the issues that I was running across was when I found say 5 or 6 pins that were useful to me and thus in my view would be useful to others as well, I would schedule them in Tailwind and they would appear on consecutive days and then be gone. Tailwind generally has 5 potential pinning slots per day so if I have 5 boards and 6 pins then by default Tailwind will schedule all 30 pins in a short 6-day window. Then I’m left searching for new pins for the next 6-day block and sort of starting all over. If I can’t find sufficient pins then I get those ‘Your Tailwind queue is empty’ messages that signal that I am not using Tailwind for pinning that day and in effect wasting my investment.

My 30-day Tailwind Pinning Strategy

Well, I wanted to and have lengthened this process out a bit by pinning across more days first, which I call vertical pinning before I begin to fill out pins across individual days, which I call horizontal pinning. So, let’s take that same set of 6 pins. Using vertical pinning, I would spread them out across say 15 days at two pins per day (15 times 2 is 30 so there are the 30 slots). The order (which pin appears first) is immaterial because I wouldn’t have picked them for sharing in the first place if I did not think they would bring value to other users. That then gives me a two-week window of content being published and two weeks to identify more content. I then repeat the process until I’ve accumulated a spread of pins across an approximate 30-day window. This takes full advantage of Pinterests’ automated virtual assistant features and works well for me because it provides an allowance for times when I may not find sharable material. It also allows for downtime, and vacations and in a real sense acts as more of a true virtual assistance. Here are a few screenshots to show you the steps I take.

I want to schedule this pin to a few of my boards:

I select the boards to which the Pin will be assigned:

I then select and adjust Pin Interval options:

I next adjust the Pin timing (could be every day, every two days…) as well as when the first Pin gets placed on the board. You can do this by setting or adjusting the date. In the example below, I set 12 Jul 19 as the Pin date versus 02 Jul 19, which is when I started this post. I also select Optimized versus Open Time Slots:

Finally, I select ‘Schedule Now’ to Schedule the Pin.

And It’s really that simple. This 30-day Tailwind Pinning strategy has taken away the stress of continually looking for Pins and allowed me to be more deliberate in my selection of Pins for my audience.

Hopefully, you will find this technique to be of benefit. If you are not yet a Tailwind user please take advantage of my gift of one free month of Tailwind (courtesy of Tailwind of course).
