A New Year a new refresh on my progress towards financial independence. I must say that I definitely ran into a roadblock. And not just the Holidays but more a roadblock of confidence and stick-tu-it-iveness. I did not see much traffic on my first niche site and saw no progress in the Adsense values. This was quite depressing as I thought I’d really begun to pick up steam. Enter the doubts. I did listen to a number of podcasts, however, and found a new one thru the SoloEntreprenuer Hour with Michael Oneal. One of his friends, a dentist, started his own podcast (name Six Figure Side Gig). And man did he hit the right theme. His podcast focus is individuals who were working 8 – 5+ jobs, who had the same urge as I have, and who started, saw success, persevered and have now left their former day jobs for the SoloPrenuer life. Since I can directly relate to that, one can imagine how drawn I was to the Podcasts. These are in-depth interviews that dig into the details of these individuals transformations. It’s still the I have already arrived and here’s how I got there model but just so much closer to home. Anyway, I put my hurt feelings aside and decided to double down on understanding the issues I might have been having with my site by reviewing the data. Hey, folks side note let me tell you this, ‘if you do not have the Google Webmaster tool, you need to get it fast’. Google Analytics is good but has a huge learning curve, the Webmaster tools are much more straightforward and intuitive and quickly let you highlight and potentially take advantage of opportunities.
As a result of reviewing the Google Webmaster data, I maxed out my add displays on the site on the most commonly reviewed pages and have recommitted to generating the content on the schedule I’d set for myself. I’m pursuing account setup opportunities with the Lending Club (another peer to peer lending site with an added business loan component) and am working thru the laborious process of setting up my Options derivative account with Optionhouse. I guess since I’m rambling a bit here’s the point I had to convince myself of was that I need ‘shots on goal’ for traffic to generate income. I cannot throw a fit when the numbers are low when I haven’t even put in the effort to max things out nor continued to sojourn on. I knew this point would come as I am sure it will for those who are reading this post. Keep your chin up, keep the goal in mind and continue the steady progress towards your goals and dreams. If you are not moving forward at the pace you agreed to with yourself, then you are falling behind others who are. If you are standing still then you are in effect moving backward to those who are moving forward. If you throw in the towel and quit you are killing off new birth in the womb.
